Organization Profile
#10 envelopes
Office Supplies & Equip. This is the standard size of envelope. We don't want the ones with windows, though. You can actually get these fairly cheap at office supply stores
2 Leather or Vinyl Living Accent Chairs
Furniture & Appliances We need 2 small scale chairs--one for each of the bedrooms in the Overcomers Recovery Home. These need to be leather or vinyl to protect us from bed bug infestations. They need to be small scale to fit in the rooms. A dark brown or black would be ideal to fit any decor. If you have one vinyl chair, in a random colour, this is better than what we have--which is NO chair. So, any donation will be helpful!
2 Single cordless phones, one with answering machine
Electronics This is for the 4 residents upstairs on the program, as well as the free phone for the guests at our weekday Drop-In Centre.
#9 envelopes
Office Supplies & Equip. These are the ones slightly smaller than standard, to stuff inside another, regular #10 sized envelope. You can find them at office supply stores
Alarm Clock
Electronics Bleep! Bleep! Bleep! Time to get up!! This is so the Overcomers residents aren't late for class
All-In-One Tool Kit
Tools We could use one of these handy-dandy sets--the bigger the better
Ant Traps
Animal Related Supplies Those little round cans that they crawl into and then you never see them again
Attic Insulation
Building Supplies Yes, it's true, we have seaweed for insulation. *This request has a corresponding volunteer need
Beverage
Food & Beverage We serve up to 44 people per day. That's over 11,000 meals a year! Donations of food and beverages help keep our costs down. Our top 3 ongoing needs: coffee sugar creamer
Bibles
Books & Magazines
Bus Tickets
Tickets Ever tried to live without access to a vehicle? It can be tough! To give to Overcomers Program residents to get to their required appointments
Card Making Scissors
Hobbies & Crafts You know, those cool zig zaggy scissors. Even old pinking sheers would work! We are collecting to have a weekly card-making class at our Drop In Centre. *Incidentally, we need someone to actually lead this class
Child Safe Mouse Traps
Animal Related Supplies Need we say more?
Christian Books
Books & Magazines Learning to read can be one of the ways off the streets. We love literacy! We have a library and a give-away section for books at the Drop In Centre
Cleaning Products
Household Items Imagine 40 people coming to visit every day. Things can get messy! We will accept and use anything you send our way, even partially used products
Clothes for Men, Women or Children
Clothing & Footwear Used clothing is a dime a dozen, so we limit our small clothing rack to new or near new clothes. Everything is given away for free
Coffee Gift Certificates
Tickets Small denomination coupons for a coffee out, to give out as rewards for milestones. ie. McDonalds, Tim Hortons Bonus Tip: These are handy to have in your wallet to pass to panhandlers
Coffee table set with 2 matching end tables
Furniture & Appliances This is to outfit our Overcomers Recovery Home
Conditioner
Hygiene & Beauty We love those itty bitty hotel supplies, but will also accept your cast offs, half used bottles, etc
Covered Garbage Cans
Household Items
Crayons & Colouring Books
Hobbies & Crafts For the kid in all of us!
Daily Devotionals
Books & Magazines Don't recycle your past dated devotional books! We place on on each of the tables at our Drop In Centre, and have a need for a constant supply. Some get soiled, but many of them get read and taken home
Deoderant
Hygiene & Beauty Trust us, you do not want to work at a Men's Home that doesn't supply this to their residents
Desktop Computer
Computer Equipment
Diapers
Baby & Kids Stuff Children in poverty break our heart. We get a few moms who bring their babies in and enjoy a lunch at the Drop In Centre. It would be nice to have a small supply of assorted sizes of diapers so they can change their baby without going home.
Dishes - heavy white restaurant dishes
Household Items
Facial Tissue a.k.a. Kleenex
Hygiene & Beauty This is used as a courtesy to our guest, including during counselling sessions and meetings that get us a little teary eyed
First Aid Kit
Medical Equipment & Supplies It would be great to have one that mounts to the wall. Do they even make those anymore? We could get an old kit (metal case) and fill it with new items
Flat Screen Wall Mountable TV for Overcomers Recovery Home
Electronics
Fly Paper
Animal Related Supplies Oh, yes, we are talking about the disgusting old fashioned fly paper. You can get these super cheap at the Dollar Store. We have an ongoing need to combat the fruit flies! It's nice to replace them regularly, since they look grody when the flies find them
Food
Food & Beverage We serve up to 60 meals a day. Donations of food help keep our costs down. Our top 3 needs: Soup Weiners Hot Dog Buns
Free Lodging for our Intern
Real Estate Our Intern, Justine, has free lodging with "The Doctors" until the summer. We don't want to lose her, so if you have a space for her--an extra bedroom, attic or basemen, even--please consider this request! For more info on Justine or the City Vision College internship program she'll be taking, hop over to our facebook note: https://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=334741679891731
Fridge
Furniture & Appliances Our fridge is on the fritz and it's freezing all our food! We prepare 40 meals a day, and have our Easter dinner for 300 coming up. Can you help? We will pretty much take anything, but it has to be frost free and we can't use the kind where the door splits in half vertically. We need a traditional door on our fridge due to space considerations. Help us spread the word!
Fridge Freezer Thermometers
Household Items By checking the temperatures on our refrigerators and freezers daily, we can make sure no one gets sick from food that isn't being cooled properly! We need 2 fridge thermometers, and 1 freezer thermometer. Some of them are designed to do both appliances
Front door weather stripping
Building Supplies *This request has a corresponding volunteer need
Games
Baby & Kids Stuff Imagine if your summer memories were afternoons at a RESCUE Mission. If it's fun, warm and welcoming, you might remember it more like a Day Camp experience. This is for the kids that tag along with their parents in the Drop In Centre. Please make sure all the game pieces are still in the box. It's really disappointing when you go to play pick up sticks and you have no sticks
Garbage Bags
Household Items We can use any size of trash bags. We can also use grocery store bags with handles. Guests use them to carry things home, and we use them daily for garbage can liners
Garbage pick-up grabbit thingys
Tools We want to help clean up our neighbourhood
Holiday Dinner: 300 Bus Tickets
Food & Beverage This is for our gift bags for each person to take home.
Holiday Dinner: 300 Hope Totes
Food & Beverage Operation Hope Tote is our give-a-way for our annual Easter Dinner to men, women and children in HRM. This is a simple and fun project for families, church and school groups, and offices. Quite simply, it's a Hygiene Kit! Take a new or used small gift bag (or a decorated lunch sack) and fill it with an assortment of the following ALL NEW hotel or dollar store normal-sized items: Toothbrush Toothpaste Dental floss Comb Shampoo Conditioner Deodorant Soap Lotion Lip Balm Facial Tissue Socks Shaving Cream Razor Facecloth Bus Ticket McDonald's Gift Certificate ($1 (max) Coffee Gift Certificate ($1 max) Snack Facebook Page to share Hope Totes: https://www.facebook.com/events/282211838515702/ For more info, call Michelle at (902) 405-HOME.
Holiday Dinner: 300 Pickles
Food & Beverage Who doesn't love the crunch of a pickle along with their meal. Plus, the sprig of green always looks great on a plate! Our goal for this special dinner is to provide the extras that normally aren't thought of for those who are in need.
Holiday Dinner: 300 Rain Ponchos
Food & Beverage We are looking for 300 of those little dollar store plastic ponchos to give away in our Hygiene Kits. Being homeless in Atlantic Canada is rough, so this small token, yet practical gift will be much appreciated.
Holiday Dinner: 300 Salad Servings
Food & Beverage You choose the kind of salad (min 1/4 c portion) you want to see us serve for our upcoming dinner! Will it be tossed, layered, Caesar, Greek, or even cole slaw? You decide! *This request has a corresponding volunteer need.
Holiday Dinner: 300 small Disposable Bowls
Food & Beverage These could be used for the soup, salad or dessert course. If you can get the kind that are compostable, or recyclable, all the better. Thanks!
Holiday Dinner: 300 Small Trinkets
Food & Beverage We're looking for little surprises to round out our take-away goodie bags. Anything from mini hygiene items, pens or pencils, key chains or even souvenir medallions would be great!
Holiday Dinner: 300 Vegetable Servings
Food & Beverage Nova Scotia is known for it's farmer's markets and fresh veggies. But we'll also accept canned or frozen! (minimum 1/4 cup portion.) Maybe you want to make a traditional UK mash! Maybe you want to keep it simple with peas and carrots. Perhaps you want a challenge and happen to have a family favourite recipe for candied yams and apples. Whatever you decide, we will gratefully accept! *This request has a corresponding volunteer need.
Holiday Dinner: 3 - 100 cup Coffee Urns
Food & Beverage We need these to brew enough coffee for our large holiday community dinners.
Holiday Dinner: Assorted New Toys
Food & Beverage It would be nice to give each child a small toy or stuffed animal, crayons & colouring book, or puzzle or game--instead of a boring old hygiene kit.
Home Sweet Home
Real Estate As a start-up Mission, our primary need was a building, and of course, someone to finance it. After a 9 month search, we finally found a building... and someone who would loan us money to buy it! A generous donor has purchased the building on our behalf. We are to pay them back, interest-free, over the next few years. Oh, and our directors also personally loaned $125,000 for a down payment on this property. Wow! The property was $500,000. We are praying for an angel to allow us to host a mortgage-burning party! All amounts designated to this campaign will be receipted for income tax purposes. 100% will be used to pay down the mortgage. Go to www.shrm.ca to donate. Don't forget to designate!
Hotel Rooms
Real Estate Several of our board members are out of town. It is always nice to provide them with a bit of retreat space, as they are running their own charities back home. Halifax is a welcome breath of fresh air, so this donation lends that 'Ciad Mile Failte' hospitality we are famous for.
Indoor and outdoor recycle containers
Household Items
Indoor Cement floor paint (any colour, preferably grey)
Building Supplies Our basement bathrooms are in rough shape! *This item comes with a corresponding volunteer need
Insulation for in between the walls
Building Supplies As the administrator of this account, I have no idea how to do this, or what this entails, but obviously... *This request comes with a corresponding volunteer need
Laptop
Computer Equipment
Laptops
Electronics We would like to provide our residents and guests with surplus working laptops with all their parts. Sorry, we have no idea how to fix laptops, so we can only accept them in good repair. *This is an ongoing need
Leather or Vinyl Living Room Set
Furniture & Appliances We are looking to furnish our Overcomers Recovery Home with bed-bug proof furniture! The vinyl stuff is comparatively inexpensive at Jysk, but you might be able to work with a furniture store to purchase items at cost. Specifically, we would need a large sectional and or a large couch, each with 2 coordinating chairs. Any colour at all will do, but if we have a choice, we would choose dark neutrals such as brown, or black.
Life Recovery

Lotion
Hygiene & Beauty We love those itty bitty hotel supplies, but will also accept your cast offs, half used bottles, etc

Raingear
Clothing & Footwear Being homeless in the Canadian Maritimes is rough, so anything in this department is given away quickly
Razers
Hygiene & Beauty
Rubber Boots
Clothing & Footwear As long as they have no cracks or holes, there is a demand for these among Halifax's homeless

We want to help you save the earth, and reduce our costs, but using the backs for your paper for in-house scrap, and using the envelopes for in-house accounting
